Redesign and automation for the IMBEL portal: site rebuilt with a focus on performance, forms per directorate, CMS per department and automatic integration with the PNCP API.

The challenge

The starting point combined problems of experience, business and transparency:

  • The old site barely loaded, with heavy images and a poor structure.
  • It lacked commercial appeal for the institutional and government buyer.
  • The content is defense material, restricted to those over 18, which requires access control.
  • Each IMBEL directorate had different needs to be met on the same portal.
  • PNCP procurements were fetched in real time from the API, which slowed the site and caused timeout errors, making documents disappear.

The solution

The work was split into two complementary fronts that together solved experience, business and transparency. The first front focused on redesign and performance. The second focused on the biggest bottleneck: automation and integration with the PNCP.

  • 01 Redesign focused on performance: site rebuilt from scratch, with images and structure optimized for genuinely fast loading.
  • 02 Commercial Directorate first: a site more attractive to the institutional and government buyer, with organized products and access control for those over 18, as it is a defense-material catalog.
  • 03 Forms and CMS per directorate: messages land directly in the right area and each directorate edits its own content, in a structure ready for all areas.
  • 04 Own database with the history: old documents migrated to a local database, removing the dependency on the API for what already existed.
  • 05 Automatic, error-free updates: the API brings only the new documents and registers them in the database, with request timeouts fixed to end the search failures.
  • 06 PNCP integration: contracts, tenders, bid waivers and price registration records displayed on the portal.

“The new portal gave IMBEL the digital presence our institutional and government audience expected. The site became fast, the products became easy to find, and each directorate now has autonomy to manage its own content.”
